2024 Bond Information
City of McKinney General Obligation Bond Election
Election Day is May 4. Early Voting takes place April 22 - 30.
General obligation bonds are funds borrowed by the city for specific public purposes. Usage must be approved by voters and is repaid with property tax revenue. Bonds for the propositions that pass will be used to fund a number of projects over the next several years. Paying for the bond debt over an extended period allows the property tax collected from current and future taxpayers to be used to pay for improvements. The following propositions are up for voter consideration:
Prop A: $106,000,000 for parks and recreation improvements
The city proposes $106 million in the upcoming bond election for the enhancement and expansion of our community’s parks system. The scope of proposed improvements is anticipated to include the renovation or expansion of certain existing parks, sports fields, and facilities, the construction of one or more new parks, and the acquisition of property for future parks development.

Prop B: $36,000,000 for municipal courts facilities
The city proposes $36 million in the upcoming bond election to be used in the design and construction of a new municipal court facility. The facility will house administrative offices, courtrooms, jury meeting spaces, city marshal facilities, and other spaces to support the court’s operations, which include upholding and enforcing local laws and regulations.

Prop C: $30,000,000 for Public Works South Campus improvements
The city proposes $30 million in the upcoming bond election to be used for improvements and expansion of McKinney’s Public Works South Campus, located at 1550 S. College St. The South Campus currently houses employees, equipment, and materials that support Water Utilities, Wastewater Utilities, Street Maintenance, Traffic Control and Street Lighting, Procurement Services, and Parks Maintenance. The improvements would help the department meet the needs of the city’s growing population, now and in the future.

Prop D: $70,000,000 for public safety facilities
The city proposes $70 million in the upcoming bond election for improvements and expansion of McKinney’s Public Safety facilities for the police and fire departments, the acquisition of land, and off-site improvements of Public Safety facilities.
This bond package request is anticipated to be used to improve and expand the McKinney Public Safety Building, located at 2200 Taylor-Burk Dr., which houses the McKinney Police Department, as well as land acquisition for future fire stations and improvements to current fire stations.

Prop E: $243,500,000 for street improvements
The city proposes $243.5 million in the upcoming bond election for the construction or reconstruction of various streets, roads, and intersections, including related improvements and the purchase of real property interest necessary to help improve mobility and safety along streets and roadways, reduce congestion, and address aging infrastructure.
